Positano

4.5 stars
Paris’ Italian Positano has opened its second location in Istanbul. The restaurant has opened in an old building, with high ceilings, in Karakoy. The interior is hardwood-heavy, with soft lighting, mirrors decorating the walls and red couches- reminiscent of a French bistro; however, don’t let the French interior fool you, the menu is 100% Italian. Carpaccio and cheeses as well as deli meats are available as appetizers. Choose from 12 different salads, fresh pasta, 12 different pizzas and a variety of main courses. We recommend the ‘Antipasti all’Italiano’ (a starter that includes mortadella, bresaola, mozzarella, Parmesan, roast beef and Mediterranean greens), seafood salad, linguine gamberi and Sicily sauce fillet. Everything on the menu is delicious; it’s clear Chef Mehmet Sanli knows the tricks of an Italian kitchen. The portions aren’t American-style gigantic, but they are filling. The prices are unexpectedly reasonable for this kind of restaurant; know that had Positano opened in trendy Asmalimescit, prices would have been twice as much. In the evenings the restaurant is the perfect place to blow off steam after work. Though the wine menu isn’t very expansive, the Italian wine selection includes rarer and less expensive options; the same can be said of the cocktails. In this economic crisis, if you’ve cut back on eating out, don’t- just try Positano, with its delicious authentic food and reasonable prices, you won’t be disappointed.
