Spanish restaurant L’Ola has been very positively received in calm Arnavutkoy. The restaurant is located in the newly opened boutique hotel Villa Denise, and just like the hotel, L’Ola could be called a boutique restaurant. The restaurant consists of one main room along with a mezzanine, which isn’t exclusively the restaurant’s but rather also used by the hotel as a reception and lobby. Most of the furniture are antiques and are from the personal collection of hotel owner Aydın Harezi. With its embroidered curtains, maroon velvet chairs, wood tables, silver candleholders and vases filled with red roses, L’Ola is romantic and dynamic. The watercolour paintings of flamenco dancers hanging on the walls prepare you for the Spanish feast ahead. The tapas and various paella are the most striking items on the menu. There are over 20 different hot and cold tapas to choose from. We were delighted to find carpaccio, cheese croquette and spicy garlic shrimp on the menu as well. For those who don’t like seafood, there is a chicken paella option; the paella is enough for 3-4 to enjoy, and is brought to the table in a giant pot, and placed over a flame to keep it warm. The menu also features soup, steak, a cheese plate, salad and pasta, though we suggest you try the paella, especially if it’s your first time here. The one exception is the ginger and carrot soup; you must try it before the weather gets too hot to enjoy it. There is a wide selection of alcoholic drinks including Spanish and Turkish wines which go perfectly with the cuisine, and most can be ordered by the glass.
